Down the TBR Hole #8 | Sorting Through Literary, Horror, & Dystopians

Hello, everyone! I hope your April is going well! As I’m slowly making a dent in reading my physical TBR, I thought it’d be good time to sort out my Goodreads shelves a bit too. Consider it a little bit of spring cleaning!

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

Layoverland seems like something I wouldn’t ordinarily pick up but it’s for that reason that it piques my interest. I love the idea of a purgatory setting, and it’s comped to The Good Place (which I only saw the first season or two of but did quite enjoy). I’ll be keeping it on my list for now!

I’ve put off A Certain Hunger for a while frankly because while I do love horror, cannibalism isn’t my favorite device/theme/etc. While it might be something I come around to one day, I’ve put it off enough that I’m going to remove it for now.

I do enjoy the occasional literary novel and Acts of Desperation sounds like it fits that bill. However, it looks like it follows a toxic romance which isn’t so much my cup of tea. I think there’s a small chance I would like it more than I think but I’m going to remove it for the time being.

I used to read a lot of young adult dystopian fiction but as my attention shifted to other genres, dystopian wound up a bit neglected. I have been wanting to read more dystopians for an adult audience and Klara and the Sun sounds like a great choice for that. I’ll be keeping this on my list.

I can definitely see how Emergency Contact caught my attention a few year ago — it feels very on brand for my past reading inclinations. At this point, though, it doesn’t interest me as much so I’ll be removing it.

I think I probably came across Other Birds while browsing giveaways with the cover catching my eye. I do love the sound of the blurb and, yes, I’m at least a little bit swayed by the cover. Apparently I’m particularly drawn to birds on covers? Anyways, I’ll be keeping this one!

I really have no idea how I heard about Sorrowland (perhaps another giveaway?) but, whatever the case, this definitely sounds like something I’d still be interested in. Cults, gothic horror, character and social explorations, motherhood, etc.? Sign me up! I’ll definitely be keeping this one on my list.

The Briefcase seems to be rated well and sounds like something I’d enjoy at some point over the years but doesn’t interest me so much presently. For now, I’ll be removing it.

First of all, I think the cover for Ghost Forest is so stunning and is probably what initially drew me to it. And, secondly, it’s a literary novel surrounding family drama and grief? Take my money. This is another one I’m definitely keeping on my list!

While The King of Infinite Space sounds engaging and fascinating, I’m not sure it’s one I’d realistically pick up anytime soon. Because of that fact and my trying to declutter my lists and mind, I’m going to be removing it, at least for now.

Books Removed: 5
Books Kept: 5
Current TBR Count: 144 – 5 = 139

Have you read any of the books on this list? If so, what did you think? Do you think there are any I should consider giving another chance? Or are there ones I shouldn’t bother with? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
