Hello, everyone! Over the years I’ve changed the way I organize my Goodreads shelves a fair bit, recently overhauling it for the first time in a while. Since I’m trying to get my head wrapped around the mess that is all the books I’d like to read, it seems apt to pick this series back up. 🙂
Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your Goodreads to-read shelf of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
This World Does Not Belong to Us by Natalia Garcia Freire

Nature horror with “raw, lyrical prose”? Sign me up! I’m not sure how I heard about this one but it sounds just like something I’d still be adding to (and keeping on) my list today.
A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
Date Added: July 22, 2022 (over two years ago)
Though this one sounds really interesting, I’ve found myself gravitating towards magical realism less and less, and I’m not sure when I’d honestly get to this. For now, I’ll be removing it.
We Play Ourselves by Jen Silverman
Date Added: August 1, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
I almost considering removing this from my list just because I’m hoping to focus more on genre fiction than literary for a while — then I saw “Fight Club” (which for some reason I’ve really been wanting to reread/rewatch lately) in the blurb and decided to keep it on my list for the time being!
Small Angels by Lauren Owen
Date Added: August 4, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
This helps set the trend of a primarily horror-focused “Down the TBR Hole” post. I don’t remember where I heard about this but I definitely want to keep it on my list!
Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space by Amanda Leduc
Date Added: August 8, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
Of all of the books in this post series, Disfigured is a book that I find myself thinking about a lot despite never even having read it! This is especially note-worthy considering I very rarely read nonfiction. Definitely keeping this one on my list, and I may even see about getting a physical copy now.
The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell
Date Added: August 10, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
I think at this point, if I see it’s horror, it’s an automatic keep for me. (If you’ve read any of the books I mention, let me know your thoughts — I definitely take people’s comments into consideration!)
Fever Dream by Samantha Chweblin
Date Added: September 4, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
Again, another keep. It’s also translated fiction which I’d definitely like to read more of!
Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo
Date Added: September 13, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
If you’ve followed my posts for a while, than you may guess that covers like this are reason enough to get me keeping them on my to-read list (I know, I know, you’re not meant to judge by covers but, technically, that’s precisely why they exist)!
The Vines by Shelley Nolden
Date Added: October 1, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
From what I’ve seen, this one has a more historical bend which I don’t always jump at but I don’t want to write it off just because of that. For now, I’ll be keeping this one on my list!
How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix
Date Added: October 1, 2022 (over 2 years ago)
I think this one is the first horror book of the post that I’ll be removing from my list. Based on the date, I assume I added it through entering a giveaway (which is how I hear about a lot of interesting new releases). While it sounds interesting enough, I find some paranormal horror a little hackneyed. If you’ve read this one, though, please let me know your thoughts!
Books Removed: 2
Books Kept: 8
Current TBR Count: 168 – 2 = 166
Have you read any of the books on this list? If so, what did you think? Do you think there are any I should consider giving another chance? Or are there ones I shouldn’t bother with? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
