Expanding My Lemony Snicket Collection | Book Haul

Hello, everyone! While I wait for the oven to preheat for my Thanksgiving turkey (happy holidays to anyone who celebrates), I decided to compose a little post to check in with my book situation. I think it’s fair to say that I’ve mostly lifted my book-buying ban for the year, and am giving in to my desires (it is the giving season after all, anyway, right?). I knew I was going to crack sooner or later.

As a collection of little philosophies and quips, Horseradish: Bitter Truths You Can’t Avoid is a pretty quick, one-sitting type of read. At first, I was a little worried because–though I love Lemony Snicket’s voice and all the offbeat bits that come with it–it seemed a little like it may all be just silly frivolities. As I read on, though, I found there are plenty of nuggets of surprisingly insightful, contemplative parts that hit you when you least expect it (which I feel sums up his style overall). Although his books surrounding the Baudelaire’s have reigned supreme in my mind, this collection and his novella Poison for Breakfast are still well-beheld. For those who also love Lemony Snicket, I’d give this one a try!

As previously mentioned, I love A Series of Unfortunate Events. Those books had a huge influence on me growing up, and I’ve spent the majority of this year getting back in touch with the inner child in me by reading a great deal of middle grade fiction in general. Because of that, I figured it was as good a time as any to pick up the All the Wrong Questions books. I’ve not started any of them yet but probably will in the next few days — my Goodreads reading challenge could use a few more additions…

When I ordered The Composer is Dead, I hadn’t realized it was a picture book — but I don’t mind! It has an accompanying CD that I believe plays into the story so I’m thinking this will be a nice, quick little activity when I catch some down time. In case it isn’t apparent, Lemony Snicket is one of the closest authors I have to an instabuy.

And that wraps up this book haul! I still don’t have all of Lemony Snicket’s books but I have the ones I’m most interested in: the A Series of Unfortunate Events books, its companion, The Beatrice Letters, and Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorized Autobiography. (I’ve read Poison for Breakfast but don’t presently own it though I do hope to eventually). Plus these newest additions. 🙂

Have you read anything by Lemony Snicket? Did you enjoy it/them? Why, or why not? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
