Mid-March ’24 Update: Focusing More on Exports than Imports

Hello, everyone! Happy March. It’s been a very nice week here, bright sunny days and flowers blooming. I think it’s going to get cold again next week but I’m enjoying the pre-spring spring-like weather! What’s it like where you’re at?

I’ve not actually been reading and watching too much so far this month as I’ve dedicated more time to writing than I have in a while. That being said, though, there’s still been a bit of consuming on my part!

TV Shows

I watched an episode or two of The Bear at the beginning of the month but am procrastinating finishing season 2 because I want to savor it! I’m several episodes into the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and have been really enjoying it. Most of my TV-watching has been dedicated to keeping up with season 6 of Love is Blind (and that reunion last night! extremely entertaining) and then binging the live action One Piece with my brother (we did watch the first few episodes a while ago but caught up on the rest in an afternoon). I’ve enjoyed all of these!

Movies

I had a craving to rewatch Captain America: The Winter Soldier as it’s one of my favorite Marvel movies (yes, I’m unfortunately one of those…) so I decided to scratch that itch (and loved it). Upon completing that, I decided it was time to rewatch all the movies chronologically, hence Iron Man. I actually enjoyed Iron Man on this rewatch a lot more than I had previously which was nice. And then I’d been craving a rewatch of The Princess Diaries and needed a fun, lift-me-up. Good stuff!

Books

Currently Reading

Most of my (minimal) reading time this month has been dedicated to Skyla Arndt’s Together We Rot, and I’m really enjoying it! It’s exactly what I’ve been craving in terms of nature-tied horror and since it’s a young adult novel, it’s pretty easy to get through. I’m about 60% right now and hope to finish it in the next day or so!

“Currently Reading”

These ones are all novels I’m in the middle of and intend on finishing but have yet to pick up this month. There’s a time crunch on a few of these so hopefully I can actually get to them.

Remarkably Bright Creatures is the pick for a book club I’m going to for the first time this month so I’m wanting to finish that in time. I got an ARC for Mercury a few months back (it was published in January) and am about 60% through and really need to finish it by the archive date at the end of this month (this is why I quit reviewing ARCs so much–I procrastinate way too much)! And let’s not even talk about The Secret History… (I’ve loved what I’ve read but have putting off reading more for months.)

Light DNFs / Saving for Later:

I was quite enjoying this book and got to about 23% but it was a library loan that was running out of time, so I had to return it. I don’t think it’s out in paperback yet although I may get a copy when it is. I do intend on finishing it at some point!

So far there’s not been too much on the media consumption this month. I have written 11k words towards the first draft of a novel I’m working on which I’m happy about. I’d hoped to finish this draft by the end of the month but I think it’ll be another month or so still. I also started volunteering at my local library which I’m happy to finally be implementing into my life! I’ve been contemplating it for a while. Overall, I’m looking forward to how the rest of this month will pay out — so far, I’m fairly pleased.

Have you read any of the books on this list? Seen any of the TV shows/movies? Did you like them? Why, or why not? How’s your reading month going? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
