Springtime Books, Films, & Music – Renewal, Whimsy, and Flourish

Hello, everyone! I’m wishing you all the happiest spring. ❤ It hasn’t been my favorite since I was a little kid, but I was enjoying the winter so minimally, that I’m elated to see the burgeoning blooms and suggestions of warmer air. Right now, the weather here has swung back into the seasonal gloomy rain, but I’m always looking forward to the brighter, warmer days in-between!

When the weather doesn’t always deliver exactly what I’m looking for, I find turning to various seasonal media helps the aesthetic/vibe/whatever sink in a little better — which I’m always striving for. So I wanted to share with you a collection of my springtime favorites and hopefuls!

Books

Of the sections in this post, books may be the most skimpy and haphazard because I attribute reading so heavily to other seasons, especially given the stories I read. But I do have a few to share!

A Hodge-Podge Selection

  • Solitaire by Alice Oseman
  • Bunny by Mona Awad
  • The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
  • Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery
  • Emma by Jane Austen
  • The Princess Bride by William Goldman
  • The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Films

What really makes a spring movie for me is generally that tie to nature, bundled anticipation, and general whimsy — which I feel these movies encapsulate very well!

Period Pieces & Classics

  • Emma (2020), dir. Autumn de Wilde
  • Pride & Prejudice (2005), dir. Joe Wright
  • The Secret Garden (1993), dir. Agnieszka Holland
  • The Sound of Music (1965), dir. Robert Wise
  • Loving Vincent (2017), dir. Dorota Kobiela & Hugh Welchman
  • Anne of Green Gables (1985), dir. Kevin Sullivan

Whimsy & Flourish

  • Tangled (2010), dir. Nathan Greno & Byron Howard
  • Alice in Wonderland (2010), dir. Tim Burton
  • Moonrise Kingdom (2012), dir. Wes Anderson
  • Big Fish (2003), dir. Tim Burton
  • Midnight in Paris (2011), dir. Woody Allen

Rom-Coms & Teen Flicks

  • You’ve Got Mail (1998), dir. Nora Ephron
  • To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018), dir. Susan Johnson
  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), dir. John Hughes
  • 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), dir. Gil Junger

Music

I don’t have a whole lot of specific albums for spring, but my spring playlists take a little bit from a lot of artists so I thought I’d share those instead! The first is fuller and the second is one I’m actively curating throughout this season. 🙂 (Don’t mind the playlist names lol)

So, those are some of my favorite spring media! Of all the seasons, I think I’ve typically felt the most meh about spring but making this post is making me more excited for it than not. So many good options for the season! Let me know of your favorites — I’m always looking to expand my horizons.

Have you consumed any of the media mentioned? If so, did/do you enjoy it? Why, or why not? What are your favorite spring rituals and media? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

    1. Pride and Prejudice is so lovely with the story and cinematography alike. ❤ I've only seen the first season of Bridgerton but the promos for this newest season are making me consider catching up. I loved all the costumes and particularly the soundtrack, and I completely agree about the whimsy!
