Quarter Year Crisis Book Tag

Hello, everyone! How’s your spring been going so far? It’s a good balance of April showers and bright, sunny days here, so I’m quite pleased! I think it’s going to be pretty hot next week, actually, so maybe I’ll wind up lamenting that…

I’m very slowly getting a handle on my reading but I’ve not finished a book I wanted to review in a while, so I feel like tags are my best bet for a little while longer! I saw this tag over on Books are 42 which was created by Roisin’s Reading on BookTube. I’m not tagging anyone specific in case they’re not interested but if you see this and would like to do one of your own, consider yourself tagged by me!

How many books have you read so far?

I’ve only finished seven books this year which isn’t exactly where I want to be but I’m in the middle of several others which I’m hoping to finish up soon!

Have you found a book that you think might be a 2024 favorite?

My favorite book of the year so far is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and while I really enjoyed it, I do think there’s potential for me to find something I love even more throughout the rest of 2024!

Any least favorite book of the year?

Greywaren (Dreamer Trilogy, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater is unfortunately sitting at the bottom of my list right now. I could honestly see it being my lowest rated of the year overall but since I’m hoping to read many more books, it may get a little jostled!

Most read genre?

I’ve read a decent mix of genres this past quarter–contemporary, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, thriller–but I’ve read the most of fantasy, which I’m not surprised by. Fantasy is almost always my top genre of a given time-frame!

A book that surprised me?

I read Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt for a book club which is not something I’d usually gravitate towards but I ended up liking it more than I would’ve expected! It’s always nice liking something more than you thought as opposed to the inverse.

A book that has come out in 2024 that I haven’t yet read?

There’s so many! In fact, I haven’t even finished a 2024 release at all this year. Some books that have come out that I want to read are The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo and The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson!

One goal you made that you’re succeeding at?

I’ve been challenging myself to put up two blog posts a week–every Tuesday and Thursday–and although I’ve almost slipped up a few times (today, even), I’m proud that I’ve maintained that schedule! I may have to adjust it as the months go on but it’s keeping me comfortably challenged at the moment.

One goal that you need to focus on?

Actually sitting down and reading! I’ve been spending too much of my free time on social media or loafing, and I really want to reprioritize that time to actually fit in reading. I can’t very well maintain a book blog if I’m barely reading, after all!

  1. Great post! Don’t worry that you’ve only read seven books so far! It’s okay to not read as much as you expect, just as long as you are enjoying what you’re reading!

    1. Thank you so much — for the compliment and the encouragement alike! It’s a really nice reminder of quality over quantity, which is a sentiment I try my best to keep in mind. I hope your reading is going well!
