Mid-April ’24 Reading and Watching Update

Hello, everyone! How’s your spring going thus far? I’m still rejoicing the sunnier days where I’m at — it’s really made being productive so much easier! I’ve been spending more time reading, decluttering, and just generally keeping busy. I’ve not been online quite so much which leaves blogging and Bookstagram pretty neglected but I’m honestly really enjoying the time away. Really getting a better balance on things!

TV Shows

I’m about 3/4 of the way through the second season of Buffy, and I’m still really enjoying it! Although, the last episode I watched was “Passion” (02×17) so suffice it to say I’m mourning (no spoilers so I’ll leave it at that!). After watching an episode or two every few months for quite a long time now, I finally finished the first season of The X-Files and am a few episodes into season two. Again, still really enjoying this one too! I also finished The Bear and actually started rewatching it. And, finally, I picked up where I left off with season four of Breaking Bad! I watch it with my brother (who’s seen it before) so whenever we both want to watch something, we go for that first. And in that same watching session, I showed him a series I really love and we watched the first episode of The Haunting of Hill House (it’s a phenomenal supernatural horror series with family drama at its core so if that’s your thing, I highly, highly recommend it)!

Movies

This month has been pretty light on movies thus far but I watched and loved Bodies Bodies Bodies, so I’m super pleased with that!

Books

I’ll talk more about my thoughts on Fight Club and Girl, Interrupted in my month-end wrap up but I’ll say here that I really enjoyed both! They’re both pretty short books and very engaging which has been extremely beneficial in easing me out of my months-long reading slump.

Currently Reading

I’ve narrowed down my “currently reading” pile back to one book at a time which I’m very happy about. This is also really helping me battle the reading slumps! This fantasy horror novella, The Butcher of the Forest, is atmospheric and enrapturing so far which is very lovely.

Light DNFs / Saving for Later

Nothing on this front for this update! I’ve straightened out my reading to the point where I’m managing my time and energy way more than I was before so there’s no need to postpone anything. I hope I’m not speaking too soon but I’m really happy with where I’m at in terms of reading at the moment. 🙂

Overall, I’m very pleased with how the month is going so far. It’s the best I’ve felt about reading in a while, and it’s influencing the rest of my life positively which has been really nice. Hopefully, I keep this balance working because I’m really loving it at the moment!

Have you read any of the books on this list? Seen any of the TV shows/movies? Did you like them? Why, or why not? How’s your reading month going? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

    1. It’s been so nice slowly recapturing the love of reading instead of just going through the motions — I’m really savoring it. And really enjoying Buffy, too, angst and all! 🙂
