Top 10 Most Recent Additions to My “To-Read” List | TTT

Hello, everyone! Though this prompt is more targeted towards your book collection/physical TBR, I wanted to feature the books I most recently added to my “to-read list” on Goodreads (if you’re at all interested in my physical TBR, I’m making it a project this year to track it here on my blog). Without further ado, here are some books that have garnered my interest recently!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

1. The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter

I’ve heard lots of good things about this short story collection and, as I’m becoming increasingly more interested in fairy tales as a concept and subsequent retellings, I officially added this one to my list! Now to see about adding it to my physical shelves…

2. The Unfinished by Cheryl Isaacs

While I’ve found young adult horror sort of hit or miss for me, this one particularly stood out to me with the main character being indigenous and connecting with her culture. I think it’s especially interesting because it takes a sideline trope and makes it a focal point, hopefully providing a more personal/nuanced perspective!

3. The Floating World (The Floating World, #1) by Axie Oh

I heard about this upcoming novel in the book blogging community and quickly added it to my list! I’ve been a little out of touch with new releases lately so I was happy to find one that sounded interesting to me.

4. Glass and Feathers by Lissa Sloan

Like I mentioned earlier, I’ve had a growing interest in fairy tales this year, hence the addition of books like Glass and Feathers. I heard about this one through a review and author Q&A and really liked the sound of it!

5. Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang

I heard about this book while browsing a Reddit thread discussing Rouge by Mona Awad (my favorite book I read in 2024!) and was immediately intrigued, especially after seeing it referred to as surrealist horror and a “beauty dystopian”.

6. An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir

I know this book is nearing a decade old, but I somehow missed it in all of its initial buzz! Since then, I’ve been meaning to read it for years and, actually, I just thrifted a copy of it so it’s technically on my physical TBR now (better go make that update).

7. The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling

I feel like I’ve been gravitating more to horror these last few years, and this gothic one sounded particularly interesting!

8. The Exhibition of Persephone Q by Jessi Jezewska Stevens

I actually came across this book on Facebook of all places. It looks to have pretty mixed reviews but I’m finding I keep that in mind less and less since I’ve found some books I’ve really enjoyed that get caught up in that mess. If you’re familiar with this book, though, let me know your thoughts!

9. The Bear and the Nightingale (The Winternight Trilogy, #1) by Katherine Arden

I’ve seen many reviews of this book/series and I’m finally adding it to my list! I’m looking forward to when I eventually get to it!

10. The Listeners by Maggie Stiefvater

While this doesn’t sound like something I’d usually go for, it is Maggie Stiefvater so I feel it fair to at least give it a shot. (Sidenote: Though it’s not on this list since I’ve already pre-ordered it, I am especially excited for the graphic novel of The Raven Boys!)

Have you read any of the books on this list? Did you like them? Why, or why not? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

  1. I loved The Bloody Chamber when I read it school, possibly the only required reading that I did like! The Bear and the Nightingale is also one of my favourite books so I hope you enjoy it!

Definitely going to add Glass and Feathers to my TBR, I love a fairy tale book as well. Thanks for the rec!

    1. So good to hear good things about The Bloody Chamber and The Bear and the Nightingale — I can’t wait to get to them! And I hope we both love Glass and Feathers! I so appreciate having this space to talk about all of these stories. 🙂

  2. The Death of Jane Lawrence intrigues me; “Crimson Peak inspired” is such a magic phrase. And an Ember in the Ashes seems to be having A Moment lately, so seems like you’re accidentally in good company.

P.S. your physical TBR tracking page looks really cool — mine is so giant and unwieldy I could never, but I like how you’ve arranged yours by genre complete with cover images! No small amount of work there.

    1. Completely agree about The Death of Jane Lawrence — very hooky comps! With An Ember in the Ashes, it’s so interesting to see what books gain traction again after a while. I’m not sure what causes those spikes, but it’s certainly interesting!

Thank you so much! It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a while. We’ll see how long I keep up with it, haha. Happy reading!

    1. Thank you! I completely understand the overwhelming feeling of facing one’s physical TBR! Mine has waned a teensy bit from trying to read more from what I already have but it’s hard to avoid bringing in so many more interesting books all the time. Happy reading!
