April Showers: Top 10 Book Covers Featuring Oceans, Lakes, and Seas | TTT

Hello, everyone! Happy April. 🙂 I’m so, so thrilled to see warmer days, even if it means it’s a bit rainy sometimes. Winter was really dragging here, and I’m glad to part ways with it…

This week’s prompt is “April Showers”, and I know my rendition of it is a bit of a stretch but I poked and prodded my brain and couldn’t come up with much actually rain related. Plenty of water, though, so I thought I’d settle for the next best thing!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

1. All the Dead Lie Down by Kyrie McCauley

I’ve not yet read All the Dead Lie Down but it’s comped to The Haunting of Bly Manor (LOVE) and the cover is so ominous and captivating that I’m really hoping to pick it up soon! Especially with the nature horror kick I’ve been on with books like Before the Devil Knows You’re Here by Autumn Krause and Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt. It looks so good!

2. I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me by Jamison Shea

I heard about I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast is Me in the Goodreads’ “readers also enjoyed” section of You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight. While I admittedly did not enjoy the latter novel, this one was also offered up in conjunction with Joelle Wellington’s Their Vicious Games which I thought was really fantastic. I’m looking forward to this one!

3. Brutes by Dizz Tate

Most of the books on this list are ones I have yet to read and Brutes is no different. I’ve been eyeing it for quite some time now but I have yet to bite the bullet and actually buy a copy. I believe it features some sensitive topics that I’m a little hesitant about and it has a pretty low average rating on Goodreads (3.21 stars) — but it still nudges my brain!

4. Daughter of the Pirate King (Daughter of the Pirate King, #1) by Tricia Levenseller

Daughter of the Pirate King is one I’ve been saving to listen to on audiobook once I sort my TBR out a little bit more — which could honestly mean I don’t get to it for years. However, it seems to me like it’d be a nice, engaging read so I’m keeping it at arm’s length as opposed to stored deep and far away.

5. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

I have a copy of The Starless Sea waiting ever so patiently on my shelf with so, so many others as well. I do hope to pick it up eventually but it’ll probably be a little while. Also, this is a bit tangential but this cover looks exactly like the mass market copy I have of Neal Stephenson’s sci-fi novel Snow Crash (another that’s still waiting to be read…), and I can never see it without thinking of that.

6. Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

Now we’re finally moving into novels I’ve actually read! I adore Everything I Never Told You — my copy is lovingly bestowed with so much underling and tabbing. It’s such an evocative story that hit me right in the gut and, oh man, it’s so good. Highly recommend for fans of family dramas.

7. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

The House in the Cerulean Sea is another one I read and loved. It’s such a whimsical, heartwarming story and the cover encapsulates that so, so well. Thinking about it now makes me want to reread it but I know I can’t given the current state of my TBR. I believe there’s a sequel coming out later this year which should be interesting!

8. The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

Alright, I promise this is the last one of the list that I have yet to read. I’ve actually not really read any of Neil Gaiman’s work outside of Coraline which is very odd to me because I feel so familiar with him as an author. I guess I’ve seen so many interview snippets and quotes and craft videos that it muddies it a little. That being said, I have several of his books on my shelf waiting to be picked up, and this one seems as interesting as the rest of his works!

9. The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan

The Sea of Monsters is the lowest rated Percy Jackson and the Olympians book (although 4.24 stars on Goodreads is by no means low or even average) which is kind of surprising to me as it’s packed with so much — Circe, sirens, wedding dress mishaps, the introduction of Tyson, etc., etc. I do think it is a little slow to start but I’m very excited to see the new series adaptation of this one! I’m betting on a lot of fun in store.

10. Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Finally, the last one on this list is Malibu Rising! It does feel a teensy misplaced as it’s a quintessentially summer novel but we’re going to ignore that. It’s been met with a lot of mediocre reviews which I understand (it definitely could’ve benefitted from a bit more editing and is very character-focused which isn’t for everyone) but I really loved it anyway. Stories about siblings will always get me (which is a big part of why I think I liked books like A Series of Unfortunate Events so much growing up)!

Have you read any of the books on this list? Did you like them? Why, or why not? What books did you mean to read/finish last year that you didn’t get to? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

    1. Thank you! I was surprised how many books I came up with through the shifted prompt. And savor the warmth! It keeps winding up way too cold here, haha. I totally understand the struggle though. Happy reading!
